12th March 2012: Over 50 finalists put files to fingertips and went head to head at The London College of Beauty Therapy on 27-28 February in a bid to win one of 18 prestigious Scratch Star awards.

Launched by Scratch magazine, UK and Europe’s leading industry voice for nail professionals, the Scratch Stars awards aim to recognise UK nail industry excellence in both technical skill and business ethic.
 
Leading industry figures were specially selected to judge the finalists over two days; on the first day, individuals took to their REM nail stations to compete in categories including Gel Tech of the Year and Nail Artist of the Year while the second day saw editorial experts and awarding bodies amass to judge categories including Salon of the Year, Session Stylist of the Year and Best Customer Care provider.
 
Over 1,200 techs and companies from all corners of the UK submitted entries for the Scratch Stars awards from October 2011 – January 2012. This number was then narrowed down based on photo entries, portfolios and testimonials. With 18 awards up for grabs, competition is fierce and after a stint of mystery phone calls and visits, the finalists will be revealed at the awards party on Sunday 20th May 2012 at the stunning Café de Paris near London’s Leicester Square.

OPI at the Oscars 2012

28th February 2012 - Last night, former wrestler & actress Stacy Keibler and The Muppets star Amy Adams both walked the 84th Annual Academy Awards red carpet wearing OPI nail lacquer in Samoan Sand on their hands. This nude hue, which complemented the ladies’ respective gold and silver dresses, is a favourite of celebrities and fashion designers alike.

OPI at London Fashion Week....

 OPI Nail Techs Lola Mussa and Karen Embury were back stage at the Clements Ribeiro London Fashion Week Show. The nail colour was chosen by the Ribeiro’s team literally 2 hours before the show, they choose the stunning deep royal blue shade called ‘Dating A Royal‘. Clements Ribeiro’s choice of nails teamed very nicely with the bright “pop” lipstick.

OPI Techs Lola Mussa, Karen Embury and Lee Moore were backstage at London Fashion Week for the one and only Marios Schwab. The OPI nail tech team, had  20 models to attend to!  The models had OPI’s  San Tan Antonio on toes and Samoan Sand on fingers. Both shades are quite neutral, and very versatile so can be worn during any season!

OPI Kicks off New York Fashion Week...

OPI has kicked off the New York Fashion Week Fall 2012 shows doing the nails for Lauren Moffatt’s presentation at The Old School (a Catholic school turned events space) this morning!
The bright orange hue, A Good Man-darin Is Hard to Find (see below) was used on models’ nails. Nails were made short and squoval (square and oval ) to give fall looks the right pop of bright colour. Orange will continue to a big colour for nails throughout the year!

OPI Celebrate 30 Years!

In honour of OPI’s 30th anniversary, more than 150 International OPI Distributors from 60 countries convened in Napa Valley, California, for a whirlwind of tours, events, sumptuous dinners, and wine tasting!
OPI got the party started in San Francisco at the World Famous Hyatt Regency Hotel, where attendees were transported aboard luxury buses to the Meritage Resort and Spa in Napa Valley.
Set against rolling hills and its own private vineyards, the Meritage Resort and Spa was a destination unto itself with Tuscan inspired guestrooms, an underground spa and restaurant, and conference facilities.
After a day of rest for weary travellers, OPI dazzled with a full day of dynamic presentations. World-renowned Drum Café, kicked off the event with a high-energy drumming session featuring conference attendees as the
orchestra. Said George Schaeffer of the event, “I can’t think of a better way to celebrate 30 years in the nail industry than by sharing the fun, fashion and family spirit that has made OPI famous!”
After the conference the group were treated to a fun packed day of tours of NAPA’s glorious wine region.

GELCOLOR TRAINING WITH OPI IN ROME

2nd February 2012 - Tara Oldham and Hazel Butler from the Lena White Training Institute represented the Lena White team at OPI’s International Training symposium for GelColor in Rome.
The intense two day training covered advanced techniques and product knowledge for this exciting new system. Tara said “Having tried a lot of competitor “gel polishes,” I can honestly
say that GelColor is the best gel in a bottle there currently is and I can see how this system will make a serious change to nail services today and in the future”. We can’t wait!
